Preserving CBD hash: the right reflexes

A well-preserved hash retains its aromas and mellowness for months. If stored improperly, it dries out, loses its terpenes, and hardens. Here are some tips to help you enjoy your CBD hash for as long as possible—these apply to our entire artisanal line.

The 3 enemies of hash

1. The light

Light (especially the sun’s UV rays) degrades cannabinoids and oxidizes terpenes. Hash exposed to light quickly loses its aromas and darkens. Always keep your hash in an opaque container or in a dark place (drawer, cupboard).

2. The heat

Heat accelerates theevaporation of terpenes (the aromatic molecules) and hardens certain hashes (especially pressed ones). Conversely, extreme cold can “break” certain hashes and alter their texture. The ideal temperature is between 15 and 21°C – the ambient temperature of a normal living room.

3. Humidity

Too much humidity = risk of mold. Too dry = your hash dehydrates, hardens and loses its softness. Ideal humidity is between 55 and 62%. Most Swiss interiors are within this range in normal conditions.

The ideal container

Hermetic

The container must be airtight. Not to keep the aromas out (although that’s a bonus), but to keep the air in. Air is the main vector of oxidation.

Material

Three good options:

• Tinted or opaque glass – ideal. No interaction with resin, light-tight. Terpene jars or UV vials are ideal.
• Stainless steel – good too. Solid, watertight, neutral.
• Food-grade silicone – acceptable, but may absorb terpenes slightly over time.

Avoid

• Standard plastic – can absorb terpenes and release undesirable compounds. Especially not for the long term.
• Aluminum foil — convenient for short-term use, but not suitable for long-term storage (may oxidize due to microporosity).
• Plastic Zip-lock bag — okay for one night, but a disaster for a week.

Retention periods by hash type

CBD hash and CBD flower do not store the same way—the concentrated resin naturally has a longer shelf life than the flower, under equivalent conditions. Within the hash itself, the durations vary depending on the format:

Bubble hash / Ice-O-Lator

This is the most delicate to store due to its high terpene content. When stored properly (in an opaque glass container, 15–21 °C, 55–62% RH): 6 to 12 months without significant loss. Avoid repeated cycles of heat and cold at all costs—they cause the resin to sweat.

Pressed hash / double zero

Pressurized manufacturing reduces exposure to air. More durable format: 12 to 18 months under proper conditions. Main risk: surface drying out if not packaged properly.

Charas

A malleable texture, rich in fresh resins. Sensitive to heat. Best before: 3 to 6 months — consume quickly after opening to enjoy the full flavor profile.
